Tropical Storm Fiona forms, track takes it west

Tropical Storm Fiona has formed in the Atlantic Ocean. Fiona is the 6th named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm is expected to track west, then more west-northwest by this weekend. After that, the predicted trajectory becomes uncertain. Track patterns vary, with some staying further northwest and others turning the storm north. Either way, it’s something our weather team at WJCL 22 will be watching for you in the days to come. Here is an overview of the trajectory predicted by the National Hurricane Center. Notice the wide spread in the forecast cone at day 5. This represents the increasing uncertainty in the forecast path after about the next 3-4 days. The average time for a storm in the position of Tropical Storm Fiona to reach the United States is around 8 days or longer.
