Track Central: Invitation to Crimson Tide

KNOXVILLE, TN – The Tennessee track and field program hits the road again this weekend as it travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the Crimson Tide Invite. The two-day meeting takes place on Friday and Saturday April 22 and 23 at the Sam Bailey Athletics Stadium.

Live match results will be provided by Prime Time Timing throughout the weekend. Action from Friday and Saturday will be streamed online via SEC Network+ and is available on the WatchESPN app.

RESPECT THE SCHEDULE

Action for Tennessee begins Friday at 3 p.m. ET with the men’s and women’s hammer throw and wraps up that night at 10:35 p.m. with the men’s 5,000-meter race. Saturday’s action begins at 10 a.m. with the men’s discus throw. The unclassified women’s 5,000m race at 6:25 p.m. wraps up the weekend for the Big Orange.

WHO COMPETE

Tennessee’s mid- and long-distance runners as well as throwers and select field athletes make up the 39 members of this weekend’s travel party. Featured among the traveling party are four school record holders – West Jordan (men’s shot put), Georgios Korakidis (men’s hammer throw), Latvia Maines (women’s shot put) and Hannah Jefcoat (women’s pole vault).

PINNOCK WINS FIRST WEEKLY SEC HONORARY

freshman sweater wayne pinnock won the SEC Freshman of the Week after a record long jump performance last weekend at the War Eagle Invitational. Pinnock jumped 8.06m (26-5.5) at Auburn and currently leads the Southeastern Conference and is tied for the best windward allowed jump in the nation this season.

The jumper also set Tennessee’s freshman record with the jump, surpassing the 40-year-old rookie record of 7.89m (25-10.75) set by Greg Neal in 1982.

The track team is splitting up next week as UT sends groups to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the LSU Invitational and Philadelphia for the historic Penn Relays.
