Overhead wire falls on Park Street station greenway

The MBTA says Green Line service has resumed between Kenmore and Government Center stations after overhead wires fell on the tracks near Park Street Station on Sunday Videos circulating on social media Sunday afternoon show smoke in the tunnel Green Line at Park Street. “There were also at least 20 to 30 firefighters there, so it was pretty crowded,” Joey Newman said. “They were just telling us to get out of there.”

An MBTA spokesperson said there was no fire at Park Street station, nor an evacuation.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Red Line riders could still get service at Park Street Station, but Green Line riders had to get shuttle service between Kenmore and Government Center while the MBTA Food Service made repairs.

NewsCenter 5 was notified shortly before 8:20 p.m. that repairs were complete. MBTA officials later told NewsCenter 5 shortly before 9:30 p.m. that regular Green Line service had resumed.
