NAPERVILLE, IL – Local parents hoping to know when their students will be picked up or dropped off by an Indian Prairie District 204 school bus are getting help that, starting Monday, will be at their fingertips.
School officials on Wednesday announced the release of a new mobile app that tracks the arrival of school buses at designated bus stops, district officials said.
The district said the release of the MyStop app to increase student safety and improve communication with parents whose students rely on school transportation. The technology is offered free of charge to parents in the district.
Through the MyStop app, parents and students can see the bus stop, location and estimated arrival times. The app updates every five seconds and adjusts the expected arrival time as the bus is actually on its way, the district said.
District transportation officials told the school board this week that all buses in the district are equipped with GPS technology, which allows the location of the bus to be tracked on mobile devices such as cell phones and tablets.
The mobile app will not offer live technical support and the app’s implementation will not change the district’s transportation guidelines, the district said in an announcement to parents on Wednesday.
As of Monday, students should continue to follow the following measures:
Always plan to arrive at your bus stop at least five minutes before the arrival time.
- If students arrive late, they should never attempt to chase, flag or chase a bus.
- If a student misses their bus, they should never attempt to get to another scheduled stop. Parents or guardians should never follow a bus or attempt to lead their child to another stop.
- If a student misses the bus, they should go home immediately and call their parent or guardian and the student’s school.
We remind parents that weather conditions, traffic, absenteeism of drivers, maintenance difficulties and unforeseen events can delay the arrival of school buses. Officials said the district is doing everything possible to keep all buses running on schedule each day and the MyStop app will help with those efforts.
If your child’s bus does not arrive as scheduled, parents should contact First Student at (630) 978-3284 to receive an estimated bus arrival time, but should wait 10 minutes before calling.
