Merseyrail services on track to return to ‘pre-Covid frequency’

MERSEYRAIL has announced that it will operate a 15-minute service on most of its network from Monday May 2.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Merseyrail services have been reduced due to the impact of the virus on staffing, however, with restrictions removed and more staff available, the rail operator is pleased to announce a back to its pre-Covid frequency.

The changes are as follows:

  • Southport line – every 15 minutes from start to end of service
  • All other routes (except Ellesmere Port) – every 15 minutes between approximately 7am and 7pm, with a 30 minute service outside these hours
  • Ellesmere Port Line – every 30 minutes start to finish daily service with additional trains running between 07:15 and 08:30 for the morning peak and 16:30 and 17:30 for the evening peak Monday to Friday
  • A 30-minute service will operate on Sundays on all lines.

Andy Heath, Chief Executive of Merseyrail, said: “I am delighted that we are able to announce the return to a 15 minute service across most of our network.

“We have worked hard throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to provide the most reliable service possible to people in the Liverpool City area.

“Our customers have been incredibly patient during this time, and I thank them for that, as we have adapted to a very difficult set of circumstances due to the pandemic.”
