WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – An estimated crowd of more than a thousand turned out to the UNCW Athletics Complex on Saturday morning for the 2022 Coastal Walk/Run for Autism.
Organized by the Autism Society of North Carolina, the event helps raise funds for programs and services aimed at improving the lives of people with autism in southeastern North Carolina.
More than 750 people signed up for the morning run and walk events, which included a 5k run that ran through the UNCW campus and a fun one-mile run/walk around the track. Several members of the Seahawks men’s basketball team hung out with the crowd, posing for photos with fans.
Many vendors set up information kiosks beside the track, where they could answer questions about their services that covered the physical and development areas.
Organizers say they expected to raise more than $50,000 from the event for the Autism Society of NC, which is the leading statewide resource organization serving people from all over. the autism spectrum throughout their lives. Profits will stay in this area to help children and adults with autism learn new skills and make friends, allow families to attend workshops or support groups to better care for their children, and provide autistic adults with the tools they need to find jobs and build fulfilling businesses. lives.
